Job Purpose
To provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors by undertaking general maintenance and minor repair work across the premises. You will support the smooth running of the surgery by ensuring that facilities are functional, safe, and meet health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, and furniture (e.g., door handles, shelving, flooring).
- Monitor and report maintenance issues to the Practice or Facilities Manager.
- Perform routine inspections of the building and grounds to identify wear, damage, or hazards.
- To carry out painting and decorating across the Practice as requested by Facilities Manager
- Carry out basic grounds maintenance/gardening duties
General Duties
- Assemble or move office furniture and clinical equipment as needed.
- Ensure external areas such as paths, car parks, and entrances are clean and safe (e.g., gritting during winter).
- Support clinical staff by setting up or dismantling rooms for clinics or events.
- Assist with deliveries and moving stock or clinical supplies between areas.
- Assist with statutory testing including fire alarm testing, fire extinguisher, fire blanket and fire detector checks, water temperature monitoring, and emergency lighting checks
Health & Safety
- Ensure safe storage and use of tools and materials.
- Carry out regular checks in line with COSHH, infection prevention, and fire safety procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments and routine inspections (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting).
- Act promptly on issues affecting patient or staff safety.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Understanding of health and safety in workplace settings.
- You will need to be confident and enthusiastic enough to carry out fault-finding and basic repairs to all equipment
- Experience of using hand tools and completing practical tasks to a high standard
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Full UK Driving License with own vehicle (mileage reimbursed at competitive rate)
Desirable
- Experience working in an NHS or clinical environment.
- Previous experience in general maintenance or a similar role.
- Practical skills in basic plumbing, joinery, painting/decorating
- Awareness of infection control standards.
- Knowledge of NHS Estates or Facilities requirements.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as occasionally required
- DBS clearance (or willingness to undertake one).
Other Information
- May be required to travel between multiple surgery sites.
- On the job training will be provided for the successful applicant working alongside the Estates and Facilities Manager
